Today's Tips Go Back
Things Parents Should Expect to Know from Teachers the First Days of School

1. Homework Policy- how often it will be assigned and when it is due.
2. Behavior Reinforcement/Positive Discipline Plan
3. Classroom Rules and Procedures- You should be given this in writing. Realistically, the teacher spends most of the first day going over this. In addition, it is typically reviewed every day for at least the first week. This way, the students can learn the expectations.
4. Here is a list of common topics to be discussed for classroom policies:

· Fire Drill/Tornado/Disaster procedures
· Restroom Policy
· Conference Time
· Interrupting Policy- in my classroom, students may only interrupt me for B Emergencies…blood, bathroom, and barf.
· Cubbies, mailboxes, lockers
· The storage of jackets, backpacks, lunchboxes
· Absent homework catch-up policy
· Out-of-seat during work time policy
· Restroom Policy

Being a teacher does not come without its own expenses. Many and most teachers supply things in the classroom out of their own pocket books. Parents can help them out tremendously if they just pitch in with the little stuff. Some great ideas to help them out will definitely not go unappreciated.

ü Hand lotion
ü Kleenex
ü Anti-bacterial soap
ü Baby wipes
ü Candy/Stickers
ü Pencils
ü Erasers
ü Crayons
ü Overhead Markers- many schools are on a budget and can only supply a certain amount of supplies to teachers for the school year. Once their supply runs out for the school year, and it ALWAYS does, teachers must buy things on their own.
